GNP Craft Producers-Borealis CraftsSalt, sun, water, spruce and birch barks, sealskins… these are the basic ingredients used by the Great Northern Peninsula Craft Producers. This ECONOMUSEUM® produces leather and fur clothing and boots with the skins harvested by seal hunters from the region. In the workshop, the artisans use an ancestral process perfected by the Inuit of Labrador. Observe the processing of a sealskin into a piece of useful bark-tanned leather. View a CD-ROM to learn about the steps in the production of boots and slippers. Visit the tannery nearby and drop into the boutique, where a wide range of unique and authentic sealskin items are on sale.
